Overview Design a Rube-Goldberg device to launch a ball. Design a Rube-Goldberg device to launch a ball. Successfully include at least 3 energy conversions Successfully include at least 3 energy conversions Limit the budget of the project to under $25. Limit the budget of the project to under $25.

Pendulum The device starts off with a swinging ball suspended from a piece of wood The device starts off with a swinging ball suspended from a piece of wood At a certain height of the swing, the ball will collide with another object, transferring its energy into the next step. At a certain height of the swing, the ball will collide with another object, transferring its energy into the next step.

1 st Energy Conversion

Ramp The ball from the pendulum collides with the car giving the car an intial velocity to send it down the ramp. The ball from the pendulum collides with the car giving the car an intial velocity to send it down the ramp. Gravitational potential energy is converted into kinetic energy. Gravitational potential energy is converted into kinetic energy.

2 nd Energy Conversion

3rd Energy Conversion

See-saw The next step is for the ball to leave the ramp and land on one end of a see- saw, the energy is transferred over into the ping-pong ball launching it into the air. The next step is for the ball to leave the ramp and land on one end of a see- saw, the energy is transferred over into the ping-pong ball launching it into the air.

4th Energy Conversion

Sources of Error Inconsistent starting height of ball release Inconsistent starting height of ball release Friction between wheels of car and wood of the ramp Friction between wheels of car and wood of the ramp Assumptions that there is no friction, all collisions are perfectly elastic, and there is no Eloss for all calculations. Imperfections in the device due to human building Imperfections in the device due to human building

Conclusions Most part we were successful; however, our device was not very efficient Most part we were successful; however, our device was not very efficient Design was easy, but turning that into a physical product proved to be challenging due to inexperience and limited budget Design was easy, but turning that into a physical product proved to be challenging due to inexperience and limited budget Helpful to see the energy transfer in something we constructed ourselves Helpful to see the energy transfer in something we constructed ourselves

Why we called it “The Breakfast Machine” Putfile - Family Guy Breakfast Machine Putfile - Family Guy Breakfast Machine
