5 Overview of the 2013-2014 Gifted and Talented Education Grant Purpose: To support systematic and continuous learning opportunities not ordinarily provided in the classroom to meet the educational needs of students with gifts and talents, grades K-12, in the areas of general intellectual, specific academic, creativity, leadership, and the visual and performing arts. Appropriation: $237,000** **Funding is contingent upon allocations in the State of Wisconsin Biennial Budget

9 Narrative Components Abstract Provide a summary of the proposal which describes: –Local needs to be addressed. –Project goals. –Student learning opportunities. –Expected student outcomes. –Evaluation of student outcomes

10 Narrative Components Needs Statement Identify the primary needs for students that the proposed project will address: The gap that the data show exists between the existing conditions and the desired conditions is the local need Describe the current local conditions Identify local needs using data Attach a summary of the data findings

11 Share an effective way that you have used/are planning on using to collect data. Share an example of a student need that you have identified.

12 Narrative Components Project Goals and Student Outcomes There are two components to this section: Note the connection back to the Needs Statement State project goals that are based on the local needs identified in the Needs Statement Clearly identify the specific measurable student outcomes that will result from this project

13 Share an example of a specific measurable student outcome that you have identified. How does it connect back to the Needs Statement?

14 Narrative Components School and Student Participants Name the schools that will participate. Describe the process used to select schools. Identify the number of students that will participate. Describe the process and procedures used to identify these students: - Specify the tools and measures used. - Identify the criteria used. Explain how the process, procedures, tools/measures, and criteria are responsive to underrepresented populations (i.e., economic conditions, race, gender, culture, native language, developmental differences, and disabilities).

15 Share an example of how you have been responsive to underrepresented populations.

16 Narrative Components Description of Programming/Services Describe the student learning opportunities in detail: –When will they take place? –Where will they take place? –How are they systematic and continuous (i.e., not “one-shot” activities)? –How do they connect to the core curriculum? –How do they represent opportunities not available in the regular classroom?

17 Share an example of a student learning opportunity. How does it connect to the anticipated student outcome? How does it connect to the Needs Statement?

18 Narrative Components Project Implementation Use the form in Section VII of the application package. Supply details for each of the goals (from the Project Goals and Student Outcomes section): –Learning opportunities –Estimated costs –Detailed timeline –Person/position responsible for leadership and implementation Note the connection back to Project Goals and Student Outcomes

22 Narrative Components Budget Two Steps Provide a detailed budget narrative. Clearly indicate how costs were calculated. Be sensitive to state guidelines. Complete the Budget Summary form (Section X)

23 Narrative Components Nonprofit Status This section only applies to 501(c)(3) organizations. –Attach a copy of the organization’s IRS federal tax exemption determination letter.
