1 How to document – MLA Style English 2 Ms. Weston

2 Who cares? Gaining a familiarity of rules of documentation is important, as innocent mistakes can lead to charges of plagiarism, which is the uncredited use (both intentional and unintentional) of somebody else's words or ideas.

3 Books with one author First or single author's name is written last name, first name. The basic form for a book citation is: Lastname, Firstname. Title of Book. Place of Publication: Publisher, Year of Publication.

4 Books with more than one author First author name is written last name first; subsequent author names are written first name, last name. Nwokey, Micdaniel, and Taylor Howell. The Allyn and Bacon Guide to Peer Tutoring. Boston: Osborn Publishers, 2000.

5 More than one author continued Washington,Brandon, et al. Writing New Media: Theory and Applications for Expanding the Teaching of Composition. Logan, UT: Utah State UP, 2004. When you have three or more authors, write the Last Name, First name of the first author listed, then et. al. for the remainder.

6 Anthology or collection List by editor or editors, followed by a comma and "ed." or, for multiple editors, "eds.“ Tang, S. and Jesse Ramirez, eds. Defining Visual Rhetorics. Mahwah, NJ: Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, 2004. Hudson, Carlos J., ed. Which College is Best for Me? Baltimore: Johns Hopkins UP, 1997.

7 Article in Reference Book For entries in encyclopedias, dictionaries, and other reference works, cite the piece as you would any other work in a collection but do not include the publisher information.
