3 ALABAMA COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEM Information Technology, Data, Planning & Research Alabama Community College System Background  Mission: academic and career and technical education; adult education, and workforce development and training services  27 institutions including 21 community colleges, 4 technical colleges, an upper-level institution, a military institute, and 3 workforce training entities.  86 instructional sites across Alabama  Average student age – 27  2010-11 enrollment – 147,968 credit students; 106,040 in customized workforce services  Governed by the Alabama State Board of Education (secondary and postsecondary) 3

15 ALABAMA COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEM Information Technology, Data, Planning & Research Alabama Technology Network (ATN) The Alabama Technology Network of the Alabama Community College System links two-year colleges, the University of Alabama System, Auburn University and the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama to solve the needs of industry. Each ATN regional center tailors its services to meet local needs, providing innovative and cost-effective solutions to enable Alabama's existing industry to be globally competitive. The network is Alabama's affiliate of the National Institute of Standards and Technology's Manufacturing Extension Partnership, which provides hands-on assistance and training to smaller manufacturers.

16 ALABAMA COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEM Information Technology, Data, Planning & Research Training for Existing Business and Industry (TEBI) Each two-year institution in the Alabama Community College System has a training for existing business and industry program that offers customized training and educational services to employers in their respective areas of service.

17 ALABAMA COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEM Information Technology, Data, Planning & Research Governor’s Office of Workforce Development (GOWD) Workforce Development Councils of Alabama GOWD coordinates workforce development functions of several state agencies so that resources are focused on the priority needs of the state. GOWD manages state-funded grants for projects that address regional workforce and economic development needs identified by industry-led councils. This office is responsible for the Ready-to-Work Program, Career Ready Alabama Program, services for dislocated workers, special focus federal training grants, and workforce training programs and services in Alabama's two-year college system.
