7 1. Accuracy and Fairness Avoid publication of inaccurate, baseless, misleading material. All sides of a story should be reported Unjustified rumours should not be set forth as facts

9 2. Caution against defamatory writings Should not publish anything which is defamatory or libellious against any individual/organisation There should be enough reason to believe that it is true and its publication will be for public good

12 3. Right to Privacy The Press shall not intrude or invade the privacy of an individual Should be outweighed by genuine overriding public interest

13 4. Recording interviews and phone conversation The Press shall not tape-record anyone's conversation without that person's knowledge or consent Make sure the recording is necessary to protect the journalist in a legal action

14  Zee News and Zee Business broadcast a story on Jindal’s alleged coal block allocations  Officials meet Zee channel  Naveen Jindal files a complaint against Zee later  The scandal- Senior journalists demanded Rs.100 crore for not doing the story

15 5. Corrections When any factual error or mistake is detected or confirmed, the newspaper should suo-motu publish the correction promptly
