Final Projects

Compile a collection of at least 8 songs that you can connect to LOTF. You will need to have an album cover with some kind of original artwork relating to LOTF. For each song on your soundtrack, you must submit a copy of the song lyrics and the artist’s name. Song lyrics with extreme uses of explicit language will not be accepted (use good judgment). The lyrics that are being compared to LOTF should be highlighted or underlined in each song. You will also need to provide a written explanation of at least 2 paragraphs (8-10 sentences total). Needs to include direct evidence from LOTF (Citations). Explanations should use specific details on how the song lyrics can be connected to LOTF and your rationale for the connection. Written explanations should be on separate paper. Soundtracks should be in order when submitted. (Song 1 lyrics, song 1 explanation, song 2 lyrics, song 2 explanation…) Project should be in final copy format (Typed or in blue or black ink, skipped lines, no scratched out words, etc.) Neatness, spelling, and grammar all count!!

The song “Loose Yourself” by Eminem has several lines of lyrics that can be connected to the book “Lord of the Flies”. In the opening lines of the song, Eminem is talking about having “one shot, one opportunity” for success or to change one’s life in some way. This is comparable to the situation where Ralph believes that keeping the signal fire going is the most important job on the island (Golding 46) because there may only be “one shot” at getting rescued and keeping the fire going gives them their best shot at going home. The line “the clock’s run out”, “snap back to reality”, and “He’s so mad” can all be connected to the event in Lord of the Flies when the signal fire goes out and Ralph gets extremely upset because he feels like they may have missed their only opportunity at getting saved (Golding 51).This is important because it adds to the tension between Ralph and Jack which has started from the very beginning when Ralph was voted Leader.

Create a Board Game based on the novel. Board game should include important elements of the story (characters, plot, symbolism). Game will have detailed instructions written in final copy format (Typed or blue or black ink, skipped lines, no scratched out words). Instructions should include details such as: Specific rules, how many players play the game, the object of the game, and how they win. Board game should include some kind of art work (use color) related to LOTF. Game should include game pieces such as dice and game play cards, but you are not limited to these. Object of the game should have something to do with the plot of the story. You do not have to follow the plot exactly but should have elements of the story. Be creative! Game will have at least one page explanation on the background and basis of the game (basically, a summary of the story and an explanation of the symbolism within LOTF). Spelling, neatness, and grammar count!!

Create pages for each of the four major characters (Ralph, Jack, Piggy and Simon). Pages should be detailed with at least 2 pictures for each character You should include at least 5 posts (at least 3 paragraphs worth per character) relating to events of LOTF. Include specific events but be creative in how each character posts them. Symbolism should be integrated into the daily posts, pictures, or profiles. Again be creative on how you use symbolism with each character. Each character page should be on separate computer or construction paper. Spelling, grammar, and neatness count!!

Write a 2 ½ - 3 (450 word min.) page essay on one or more of the themes of LOTF. You must submit an electronic rough draft on designated due date and electronic final draft as well as paper form. Your paper must be in MLA format (Use your Writing Guidebook or see me for assistance if needed) and must contain at least one outside credible source in addition to LOTF. Paper should have a thesis statement and well developed support from the text and one outside source. Paper must be typed and contain a works cited page. Neatness, spelling, and grammar all count!!
