6 Nixon/Kennedy Debate (1960) Nixon, had lost 20 pounds and looked tired Nixon looked sick which many Americans interpreted as poor personal responsibility, which helped Kennedy win the election

7 Television and the Civil Rights Movement Television helped to show many Americans the civil rights problems and helped to change public opinion In 1963, after viewing the violence in Birmingham, AL on television, President Kennedy began working on a new civil rights bill
