In preparation for that writing exercise, make a list of controversial school/educational or “teen” issues about which you have a particularly strong opinion. What kinds of topics do you think evoke a strong and distinct reaction from you and your peers? For Example: “No pass, no play” – UIL rules Cellphones in school

Editorials 1.Read the informational text “How to Read an Editorial” on page 140 of your SpringBoard book. 2.As you read, mark the text to highlight important information from the passage. 3.In the margins of the page, write the three most important pieces of information you found within the text.

3. Let’s apply it. 1.Follow along as we read the unsigned editorial “Facing Consequences at Eden Prairie High” on pages 142-143 of your SpringBoard book. 2.As we read, we’ll stop and fill in the graphic organizer on page 141 for the eight prompts/questions on the previous page.

4. Homework 1.Find an editorial in a newspaper, online, in a magazine, etc. Print it off, tear it out, etc. 2.Read it. 3.Use it to answer all the questions from page 140 of your SpringBoard book. For question #7, write five slanters you found in the article. 4.Staple your completed questions to the back of the editorial. You will submit both in class tomorrow for a grade.
