2 There are three main functions of the muscular system. 1. Warmth – your muscles warm you up by shivering 2. Movement – the muscles make your bones move so you can walk, jump, wave, etc 3. Posture – the muscles generate a low amount of force to hold the body up for long periods of time – like holding your shoulders back.

3 To keep the muscular system healthy you need to:- 1. Exercise every day 2. Eat healthy foods and make sure you eat the recommended amount of protein, carbohydrates and fats 3. Reduce stress in your life

4 If the muscular system didn’t work you wouldn’t be able to  Talk  Move  Breathe  Eat Basically you would not be able to survive on your own.

5  Skeletal system – by making the bones move so we can run, walk, lift etc  Digestive system – in the stomach and digestive system the muscles tighten up and relax so the food can travel through the body  Respiratory system – muscles make our lungs contract so we can breathe

6  The body has more than 600 muscles  There are three types of muscles. They are:- › Smooth › Cardiac › Involuntary Some muscles are connected to the bones Muscles make up nearly half our body weight
