The 7 th Commandment: You shall not steal. !!!!! Exodus 20:15 http://tracksuitceo.files.wor dpress.com/2007/07/10- commandments-of- supporting-your-family.jpg

You shall not steal  The New Testament repeats this law:  Ephesians 4:28  Those who are stealing must stop stealing and start working. They should earn an honest living for themselves. Then they will have something to share with those who are poor.  New Century Version

You shall not steal  Therefore Martin Luther explains:  Do not take other people’s money or possessions. Don’t get them in any dishonest way. Help them to improve and protect their possessions.

Luther continues:  Do this out of fear for God,  and showing your love for God.

Situation #1  Walking in Walmart – there’s a candy bar that fell on the floor – as I pick it up, I’ll just remove the cover and slip the candy in my pocket – that way there won’t be any warning signal when I walk out. What do you think?

Situation #2  I’m working behind the counter at Taco Bell – here comes my friend from school, maybe I can give him a little help – here, take this large drink cup instead of the regular size one, no one will know. I hope this guy will like me more!

Situation #3  I really need to do well on this test, but I don’t have enough good answers to pass yet. The teacher’s back is turned, so I think I’ll just peek at the paper across the aisle from me.

Situation #4  Yesterday I found a 10 dollar bill on the ground and my sister claims that it is hers! No way am I giving it to her!

 End of Commandment 7  Now for some background

MORE ABOUT LAWS  Jews have found 613 laws in the old Testament!  Some Jews try to observe all 613. Those Jews are called Observant Jews!

Here is Why…….  Some are laws about how to sacrifice animals toGod, in ceremonies. The are called ceremoniallaws. Christians do not observe these lawsbecause Jesus Christ was the last and greatestsacrifice, and so he brought the sacrificial systemto an end……

 Some are “ Government” type laws, for the Jews touse when they had kings, for example how manylashes to punish someone if he steals somebody’sgrain. The Jews do not have kings now, so theselaws are not for to day.

BUT…….  Some are called moral laws….. Laws about how to lead a moral life. They include the 10 Commandments but there are more besides.  For example Micah 6:8 says “This is what the lord requires of you: TO DO JUSTICE AND TO LOVE MERCY.”

SO…….  God DOES require Christians to keep the “moral” laws. How do we know?  Because they are repeated in the New Testament so we know God means them for us.

 Which commandments are included in this New Testament verse (Luke 18:18-21):  A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” ….  Jesus answered. “You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.”

 Jesus sums up the moral laws this way:  Matthew 22:35-40  One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”  Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
