4 Priorities – State Strategic Plan In January 2005 the Premier made the commitment to have all young South Australians (15 -19 years of age) learning or earning with a guarantee to help them achieve their potential, whichever path they choose. ‘Learning and/or Earning’ – Premier Mike Rann

13 Transition Portfolio Collect and organize information about yourself in 3 areas of ABCD Personal Management Information about yourself, skills and abilities, which has been provided by you, community members, employers and your school. Learning & Work Exploration Evidence of research and activities you have undertaken that contribute to your knowledge and understanding of your learning work options. Career Building Evidence of your thinking and decision making and planning for your future. Your pathways in the future may be varied: TAFE, University, an apprenticeship, self employment, work for others or recreational and leisure activities. Evidence of your achievements.

16 Case Management and Dialogue Young people will Participate in 3 day induction program delivered in the workplace and designed to build competencies of the Australian Blueprint for Career Development Take charge using Individual Learning Plan processes to make and record their goals, decisions and action plans Choose and customise learning/training programs (learning products) to be undertaken in areas of the workplace (learning spaces) of their choice

21 Disability Transition Program A model to support young people with a disability to make successful transitions from school into further education, training and employment pathways.

22 Disability Transition Program Individualised learning package that meets young people’s transition needs Develops employability skills through Introductory Vocational Education Certificate 1 (IVEC) Industry specific VET course in an identified area of interest 2 weeks work placement with support from a Disability Employment Network

23 In 2007 118 students in metropolitan Adelaide in industry areas such as: construction, horticulture, hospitality, IT, business administration, hair & beauty and retail.. Certificate 1 Kitchen Operations Certificate 1 Horticulture

24 Partnerships and Collaboration Personnel Employment manages the program Futures Connect Transition Brokers & cluster schools TAFESA and Private RTOs DEST Local Community Partnerships Employers eg Woolworths State Advisory Group: cross agency representation Working group arranges support eg VET courses, work placements, IVEC courses Youth Engagement – Futures Connect

25 Case Management Initial interview Profile and transition plan developed Trainer works with each young person to build an understanding of their vocational interest & skills Students supported to make informed decisions about the industry VET course they will undertake Ongoing case management through registration with Disability Employment Network

28 Evidence of increased self esteem, employability skills and greater understanding of workplace and vocational pathways interests Immediate Post Program Destination Data: 69% registered with a Disability Employment Network (case managed ultimately to employment). 26% returned to school. 5% with undetermined pathways (major personal issues) Outcomes

29 Career Lighthouse Project Federally funded programme All 7 schools with secondary students in North East district involved Base level was Individual Learning plan unpacked (see handout) and ‘gaps’ assessed Also used Career Works as basis of some work Preparing for upcoming SACE Personal Learning Plan
