1  Objective – Work one essay question. Watch Stevie Wonder in concert. Talk about Jackson 5.  Announcements – Review Sheet, Choir and our projects.  Bell Ringer – How has Smokey Robinson influenced the Motown sound. Please give at least three different examples.  Stevie Wonder in concert.  Discussion – The early years of the Jackson 5.

2  Made up of the five Jackson brothers:Tito, Jermaine, Michael, Jackie and Marlon.  The Jackson 5 based much of their sound off of artists such as:  Sly and The Family Stone  The Temptations  Stevie Wonder  James Brown

3  The Jackson 5 signed with Motown in 1969. Early Motown recordings of The Jackson 5 were usually covers.  ‘Who’s Lovin You’ is a great example of early Jackson 5 material.

4  This was the title of The Jackson 5’s first studio album, completed in late 1969.  I Want You Back – this hit was featured on the album.  In 1970, The Jackson 5 released a number of original hits  The Love You Save  ABC  I’ll Be There  These 3 hits climbed to the top of the Pop Charts

5  The Jackson 5 continued to prosper.  Jacksonmania spurred more ablums, memorabilia and even a television show.  At this point, the Jackson 5 were holding their ground at the top of the charts.

6  Objective – Wrap up discussion on The Jackson 5, practice music notation and review for the test on Thursday.  Bell Ringer – Compare and contrast The Temptations and The Supremes. Please provide at least five different examples.  Complete discussion on The Jackson 5.  Work on music notation.

7  The Jackson 5 established a lasting impression on teens of America and the world.  They became household celebrities.  They were on magazine covers, Christmas albums, t shirts, bumper stickers and much more.

8  In the mid-1970’s, the J5 continued to prosper. However, their songs weren’t achieving the same level of success as before.  The Jackson 5 continued to perform but artists from The Jackson 5 were also interested in pursuing solo work.  A great example of this is Michael Jackson

9  The Jackson 5 felt that Motown was doing a poor job of updating their image  As a result, their popularity began to decline.  Soon enough, The Jackson 5 would be looking for a new record label. CBS records signed them in 1975.  CBS stated that they would grant The Jackson 5 a 20% royalty rate compared to the 2.8% given by Motown.  The Jackson 5 no longer worked with Motown.

10  Jermaine and Michael both pursued solo performing careers.  Jermaine enjoyed some moderate success and Michael has become one of the greatest ever.
