3 Janusz Sieroslawski, Polish National Focal Point Introduction Drug surveys 2002 and 2006 commissioned by National Bureau for Drug Prevention (NFP) Country-wide survey repeated each 4 years Health survey commissioned and implemented by the Central Statistical Office – questions on drug use applied first time in 2004 Country-wide survey conducted in 2004 is the second study of series – first one was conducted in 1996, the study will be repeated each 8 years

4 Janusz Sieroslawski, Polish National Focal Point Drug survey – method The population survey on the random sample of Poland’s inhabitants age 16+ (2002) and 15-64 (2006) Random sample of households (one respondent randomly selected form each household) Gross sample – 10 350 (2002); 5700 (2006) Net sample size – 6 340 (2002); 2859 (2006) Face to face interviews conducted by research agency (interviewers network) experienced with such kind of surveys Questions on drug use developed according to EMCDDA standards (life-time use, last 12 months use, last 30 days use) The study conducted in June/July 2002 and 2006

5 Janusz Sieroslawski, Polish National Focal Point Health survey – method The population survey on the random sample of Poland’s inhabitants age 15+ Random sample of households (each member of selected household enrolled) Gross sample – 75 000 persons Net sample size – 43 000 persons Face to face interviews conducted by Central Statistical Office interviewers network Questions on drug use developed according to EMCDDA standards (life-time use, last 12 months use, last 30 days use) The study conducted in November and December 2004

9 Janusz Sieroslawski, Polish National Focal Point Explanation of differences Related to the context of questionnaire content health issues – considered to be consequences of substance use drug questions – small element without special attention Related to the study context data collection process was out of our control interviewers were not specially trained all members of household were enrolled – it not supported sense of confidentiality if respondent was unavailable – the information were collected from other members of family – it not supported sense of confidentiality (such cases were eliminated)
