RUN COORDINATOR’S REPORT 1-8 May 2006 Thomas Schörner-Sadenius Universität Hamburg ZEUS Monday Meeting DESY, 8 May 2006

DESY, 8.5.2006TSS: Run Coordinator Report2 SUMMARY ¶ ZEUS Overall: – (if any then) smooth data taking without major problems – Only minor detector/DAQ hickups – access useful for a number of components ¶ Lumi this week (starting Monday afternoon) – HERA delivered: ~1.77 pb -1 – ZEUS gated: ~1.44 pb -1 – Largest fill: 0.64 pb -1 delivered – best fill: 87% efficiency ¶ Very little HERA operation: – Monday/Tuesday: Proton problems, e vacuum leak – access Tuesday/Wednesday – data taking Friday until early Sunday – then HERMES background problem  Uwe’s talk

DESY, 8.5.2006TSS: Run Coordinator Report3 HERA PERFORMANCE ¶ Instantaneous (specific) lumi up to 3.75*10 31 (2*10 30 ) ¶ Currents up to ~95 / 40 mA, (Monday morning: 110mA!).

DESY, 8.5.2006TSS: Run Coordinator Report4 HERA PROBLEMS Machine studies after access, fun with temp. sensors on lumi detector ¶ last Monday: Proton machine problems, e vacuum leak. Then access. First lumi Friday. Lost control over ep timing e injection difficult RF problems Water tower noise????? Backgrounds worsening HERMES problems and studies for it Friday, 0:00

DESY, 8.5.2006TSS: Run Coordinator Report5 ZEUS PROBLEMS ¶ CAL QINJ excitement - FCAL module 2 QINJ constantly fired, leads to low CFLT efficiency. - confusion about number of bad channels  now QINJ for F2 disabled in PHYSICS runs. ¶ MVD not setting up - required telnet to MVD machine several times ¶ and the usual stuff: - FTD/STT keeping busy / not aborting / not sending data to EVB - MVD keeping busy - HES ski control system alarm - some BAC bubblers dead - BMUON not setting up - FMUON keeping busy - one RCO crash - RADFET histos on HIP disappearing - ethan gas flow control monitor died. - power supply in control room giving alarm (beeping) - twice 100% deadtime with unclear reasons

DESY, 8.5.2006TSS: Run Coordinator Report6 ZEUS PERFORMANCE ¶ Only three fills with very good data taking conditions (except for end of last fill Sunday morning).

DESY, 8.5.2006TSS: Run Coordinator Report7 ZEUS PERFORMANCE Data only from Friday to Sunday morning ¶ Considering the breaking of the vacuum in the interaction region the background conditions were marvellous.

DESY, 8.5.2006TSS: Run Coordinator Report8 ZEUS LUMINOSITY 1.77pb -1 delivered 1.44pb -1 gated.

DESY, 8.5.2006TSS: Run Coordinator Report9 LUMI/EFFICIENCY PER DAY Still on John’s shift ;-)

DESY, 8.5.2006TSS: Run Coordinator Report10 LUMI/EFFICIENCY PER FILL

DESY, 8.5.2006TSS: Run Coordinator Report11 LUMI LOST BECAUSE … Partly caused by MVD set-up problem at beginning of fill. Last fill towards HERMES problem had considerably more noise …

DESY, 8.5.2006TSS: Run Coordinator Report12 EVENTS OF THE WEEK NC at Q 2 ~ 12000 GeV 2

DESY, 8.5.2006TSS: Run Coordinator Report13 EVENTS OF THE WEEK CC at Q 2 = 16170 GeV 2

DESY, 8.5.2006TSS: Run Coordinator Report14 EVENTS OF THE WEEK e* candidate

DESY, 8.5.2006TSS: Run Coordinator Report15 EVENTS OF THE WEEK another e* candidate

DESY, 8.5.2006TSS: Run Coordinator Report16 EVENTS OF THE WEEK 2e + Photon

DESY, 8.5.2006TSS: Run Coordinator Report17 EVENTS OF THE WEEK Dimuon event, M = 14.4 GeV

DESY, 8.5.2006TSS: Run Coordinator Report18 NEXT WEEK … … your friendly run coordinator on duty is … Roberval

DESY, 8.5.2006TSS: Run Coordinator Report19 THIS WEEK … … was my last week as run coordinator. I would like to thank all colleagues involved in the data taking for their effort and helpfulness: – The on-call experts for hardly ever bothering when being kicked out of bed even in the darkest hours of the night; – the shift crews for their effort to let me have quiet nights and – the people more experienced than me for answering all questions I could think of. – the event-of-the-weekers for in-time supply of plots. Thanks a lot!
