1 Input Access & Modification Implementation Project using Speech Recognition By Cheryl Temple

2 Background 16 year old high school student Sophomore next year. Cerebral palsy Program for students with physical disabilities Has some use of his hands, although limited.

3 Device Selection Speech recognition Via Voice Chose Via Voice because he is trying a non-disclosure piece of software that requires Via Voice as one of the components.

4 Device Rationale He had tried it a few years ago but stated that, “I didn’t have the patience for it.” Speech recognition has come a long way over the last couple of years. Student has also matured. He really wanted to try it and make it work. He is currently using Co:Writer, however because of his limited ability to use his hands, it is very time consuming.

5 Device Demonstration

6 Device Implementation Trained for six days using Via Voice Training lasted about 2 hours a day Will continue with training in the Fall Will be given a laptop for continuity between school and home Goal is that he will be using speech recognition for all major assignments before winter break.
