SNEHA KIRAN of Mysore Spastic Society Presentation by Dawn Cornell

About Sneha Kiran It all began in 2002, with several families coming together to address the needs of their children. Prior to the founding of Sneha Kiran of Mysore Spastic Society, Mysore lacked an all-inclusive center for children with Cerebral Palsy. This was a great strain on families as they were required to travel to many locations to receive therapies for their children. Classes and services initially were provided in an industrial shed and served only six children. Through the efforts of a dedicated core group of individuals funds were raised and the land was acquired to build the current center. In 2011, the dream became a reality and the center moved to its permanent home. Currently, Sneha Kiran is the only center in Mysore that provides rehabilitation and education to this growing group of individuals, a service that has been welcomed gratefully by the parents of special children. Our hope is to continue to extend our reach into the rural areas surrounding Mysore in the near future. What started 13 years ago with six children, today helps over 60 children.

My Project: Creating a modern website A quality website is the “voice” of an organization. The goal when presenting information on a website is to make sure the mission and the cause are clear and present on every page of the site. If a site fails to be consistent and concise when presenting information, the visitor may become confused, lose interest and fail to connect with the organization. While Sneha Kiran’s previous website was adequate it was confusing in its design and presented more information than was needed to serve its purpose.

Why is this important? “Because the way that we relate with people today has largely shifted from face-to-face meetings to digital communication on websites, social media and mobile devices. When you’re talking with someone in person, it’s easy to verbalize what you’re passionate about—your “voice” and personality are evident. But when people shift their communication to the web, many times they lose their voice, and they become stiff and lifeless. The passion for the cause can be lost.”

The New Vision Sneha Kiran is a modern facility and the only of its kind in Mysore. My mentor requested that the new site be primarily an educational resource while also providing inspiration to potential donors. With this in mind I began by first researching highly rated nonprofit websites and editing the current content. I also relied on previous coursework to guide my decisions regarding design & content.

What is different? The new website is uncluttered and features only pictures and content that represent the vision and mission of Sneha Kiran. The language is simple English making it easy for readers to understand. The new site features an engaging donation page that provides would-be donors with several options for involvement. The Gallery features large vibrant pictures of school events and children. The font is larger, and will be more handicap accessible.

The finished website Some information is still needed and content is being reviewed and edited by members. The new site will launched in 40 days by a developer. http://editor.wix.com/html/editor/web/renderer/edit/878837c7-ff30-47c1-af72- ab58ba8594b5?metaSiteId=a8c10da3-049f-448f-99d6-809eb82a28de&editorSessionId=7C55B517-AFD7-4CBE- A803-E72FF1E64AD9
