1 READING @ HOME… Many thanks to all of you who spend time listening to your children read at home. To develop strong, confident readers, practice is essential and the children love to have an opportunity to show you what they can achieve. It can be hard to fit it in with our busy lives but the children benefit SO much and it need only be 5- 10 mins. When you do listen to your child read, please comment in their reading record books so they can be claim their star at school which will go towards perhaps winning a raffle prize! Please feel free to change the children’s books if you have finished the one you have. They are kept in their colour coded boxes in the breakout area outside the classroom. G’Day Australia! We continue with our topic G’day Australia for 4 weeks as there is so much more to learn! After SAT’S week we will be starting an exciting topic based on our local environment which will roll over into term 6. More to be revealed nearer the time…! Literacy & Numeracy In numeracy, we will be exploring more about number and place value, addition and subtraction, fractions, position and direction and finally some 2D/ 3D shape work! In literacy we will be planning and writing our own Australian adventure stories and composing more poetry. WELCOME!! Hello and a warm welcome back. We hope you had a relaxing Easter, enjoying some glorious spring weather… and have managed to eat your way through all the chocolate eggs! Last term, we saw some inventive BBQ menu’s, superb numeracy work and amazing dijeridoos! Keep going with your homework children…we are very impressed! SATs During the W/C 4 th May, year 2 children will be taking their Statutory Assessment Tests (SATs). All children in year 2 are required by the government complete these. However the final levels are determined by “Teacher Assessment”, which really means that SAT’s help inform you class teachers judgement of their end of year level. The results will be published in the end of year reports and more information will be provided during parents evening. We do not want the children to feel any anxiety or pressure… Their regular reading, an early night and a good breakfast is all the preparation needed from home! W/C June 15 th -Year 1 Phonics Test Mrs Barr’s class swimming -Outdoor games-Thursday pm R.E - Family in Judaism In R.E this term the focus is on the importance of God, the Torah, the world and family to the Jewish people and how their beliefs are expressed in practice. Pupils will look at the connection between the Creation story and the tradition of Shabbat in Jewish homes today.
