On June 4 th, you will be given the chance to run BizTown! We will be studying everything you need to know to run a successful business.
5
What is a business? A business is a company or organization that makes and/or sells goods or provides services to consumers.
6
What is the difference between a good and a service?
7
Goods are objects that satisfy people’s wants.
8
Services are actions that also satisfy people’s wants.
9
What are consumers ?
10
Consumers are all the people who purchase goods and services.
11
What are producers?
12
Producers are people or businesses that provide these goods or services.
13
Can you name some businesses you have visited during the last week?
14
What goods and/or services did these businesses provide?
15
Most of the time, companies compete with each other for your business.
16
This is called “competition”: the efforts of two or more businesses to win the same customer.
17
One way a business can set itself apart from others is to create a “mission statement”.
18
A mission statement is a brief description of a company’s core purpose. It answers the question, “Why do we exist?”
19
See if you can guess which companies have the following mission statements.
20
“To be the most successful computer company in the world at delivering the best customer experience in markets we serve.”
22
“Our mission is to bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world.”
24
Do you think you could create a mission statement for a company?
25
You will be given the description of one of the companies from BizTown. Your job is to read this description and fill out page 7 of your workbook
