1 Basic Yearbook Terminology

2 Endsheet The spread that connects the cover to the pages in the book and usually displays the theme.

3 Title Page Title page- The first actual page of the book that displays the theme and includes the title of the book, the school’s information, and the enrollment. Only on the right side of the page

4 Opening The first four pages (2 layouts) of the book (after the title page) that display the theme and introduce the book to the reader.

5 Section Categories in a yearbook that make it easier for students to find a group of pages EX: Sports, activities, academics, mugs/albums, events, student life

6 Divider A layout in between two sections that introduces the next section and displays the theme

7 Signature A large sheet of paper folded sixteen times to make a ream of the book.

8 Theme An idea that unites the book. The theme is present in dividers, opening, title page, endsheets, and cover.

9 Gutter The area in the middle of a layout that cannot be seen because it is in the seem of the book.

10 Captions Two sentences that describe a photo. Every photo must have a caption

11 Spread or Layout Two facing pages in the book that are usually created as one design.

12 Walsworth The publisher of our yearbook

13 Index The list of names in the back of the book that allows students to find their and friends photos
