1 ACTIVITIES 2008-2009

2  1.Parking Space Fee Increase;  Mike Crowder, Associate Vice President of Business Affairs was invited to address the Senate on faculty and staff parking issues.  Parking is at it’s maximum  Parking fees will continue to increase 5-10% per year for the next ten years to cover the cost of building future parking facilities.

3  2.SACS  Select members of the Senate were active with the SACS preperation.  3.Dean and higher administrator position interviews.  Senate was approved an active position in the interview process.

4  4.Faculty Awards Policy Revision  A task force chaired by Dr. Yondell Masten worked diligently to revise and streamline the Faculty Awards process.  The Senate revision was accepted by Dr. Baldwin and awards will be presented at the Convocation ceremony October 29 th.  5.TTHUSC Compliance Committee  The Faculty Senate continues to have a member on this committee.

5  6.QEP Steering Committee  Faculty Senate had opportunity for input through Dr. Yondell Masten, Dr. Tori Gustafson, Dr. Rebecca Sleeper, and Dr. Tom McGovern who were an active part of the Steering Committee.  7.Cafeteria Pricing for HSC Employees  Dr. Tom McGovern has made this his task this past year as a Senator to investigate the possibility of HSC faculty and staff discounts.  UMC pays a fee for their staff discounts.  He learned that at this was cost prohibitive for the HSC.

6  8.Strategic Space Issues  At our November meeting Dr. Rolfe gave the Senate a presentation of the events and timeline of upcoming changes, plus results of the Parkhill, Smith, and Cooper consultation regarding effective use of space for the Lubbock campus.  9.IRB Policy Education  The Senate provided a channel for IRB policy education for new faculty and students.

7  10. Campus Recycling Program;  The Senate agreed to work with other campus groups such as the Student Senate to bring about a “Green Campus”

8  1.OP 60.10: Faculty Grievance Procedure  2.OP 73.15: Minors in Research Laboratories  Policy was written from a safety perspective. Senate invited Mr. Victor Means from Safety Services to here concerns of the Senate.  Suggested revisions compiled by the Senate were sent to Mr. Means for consideration.  3.OP 60.08: Annual Review of Faculty Employment Contracts  4.OP 60.09: Faculty Recruitment Policy;  Senate representative on Revision Task Force Committee
