2 doc.: IEEE 802.11-10/0705r1 Submission Motion Request RevCom extend P802.11REVmb by two years, as described in the IEEE-SA Operations Manual subclause 8.1.2, and as supported by the schedule described in document IEEE 802.11-10/0705r1. July 2010 Bruce Kraemer (Marvell)Slide 2

3 doc.: IEEE 802.11-10/0705r1 Submission Introduction This document presents the schedule and background information for P802.11REVmb and seeks approval of the IEEE 802 EC to request IEEE RevCom to allow the 2-year extension. July 2010 Bruce Kraemer (Marvell)Slide 3

4 doc.: IEEE 802.11-10/0705r1 Submission July 2010 Bruce Kraemer (Marvell)Slide 4 P802.11REVmb Rationale for Extension IEEE STD 802.11-2007 was published in June 2007 Amendments 802.11k, 802.11r, 802.11y, 802.11w, 802.11n and 802.11p have been approved since then. Revision project P802.11REVmb has rolled in k,r,y,w & n. 802.11p was approved in September and will be rolled in once published. Amendments 802.11z, 802.11v, 802.11u are expected to be completed before the completion of the P802.11REVmb, and to be rolled into the published revision. According to the IEEE-SA Operations Manual (subclause 8.1.2), it is necessary to get approval of a 2-year extension to allow these amendments to be considered by RevCom, as their approval will be sought after the initial 3-year period.

7 doc.: IEEE 802.11-10/0705r1 Submission IEEE-SA Operations Manual Subclause 8.1.2 – Amendments & Corrigenda Up to three amendments can be approved before the standard shall be revised, unless the base standard has been approved or reaffirmed within the past three years. In the latter case, multiple amendments may be added until the base standard is three years old or three years have elapsed since the most recent reaffirmation of the standard. After the three-year period, RevCom shall defer consideration of additional amendments or corrigenda until a revision or a two-year extension request is approved by the IEEE-SA Standards Board. The standard shall not be reaffirmed if three or more amendments to the base standard exist. If, for any extenuating circumstances, an exception to these rules is required, the Sponsor shall take its request for a two-year extension to RevCom. A project plan outlining the rationale for the request, as well as a schedule for the revision, also shall be submitted. RevCom will review the request and make a recommendation to the IEEE-SA Standards Board. July 2010 Bruce Kraemer (Marvell)Slide 7
