Please turn in your 2 CLIMOGRAPHS to the basket.

Warm Up Is this a primary resource or a secondary resource? What about this one?

Student Expectation Analyze and Evaluate primary and secondary resources to determine their geographic value to researchers.

Primary Sources

Primary Source: Source created by a person whom actually saw or participated in an event

DDiDiaries – PRIMARY SOURCE Dear Diary, OMG! Today when I was in class a boy in front of me farted and I almost threw up!

DDiLetters – PRIMARY SOURCE

DDiMaps – PRIMARY SOURCE

OtOther primary sources: original documents songs stamps photographs political cartoons newspaper articles interviews Must have occurred at the time of the event!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Activity Create an example of a primary source from the days of September 10-15 You have 5 minutes GO!!!

Secondary Sources Source created by someone not present when the event took place

Let’s think…. A newspaper article written about the revolutionary war would be???? Primary source!! It was a reporters reaction to a recent event.

But…. A newspaper article written about the tragedy of bunker hill NOW would be…. SECONDARY SOURCE! It was a reporter’s reflection of a past event, separated by time.

How can I tell if it’s a valid source? Look for BIAS Bias: to show prejudice for or against something. Example: Would you really believe a letter in favor of smoking from the PRESIDENT of a tobacco company? Umm..NO. He is BIASED.

How can I tell if it’s a valid source? Look for CONTRADICTION Contradiction: To completely change stories midstream. Example: Would you really believe an interview of a suspect in a crime if he kept changing his story? Umm…NO… He is CONTRADICTING himself.

ACTIVITY…ACTIVITY!! Part one EVALUATE and ANALYZE Let’s look at some documents and take them APPARTS. (Bad spelling, but work with me) Ask yourself these questions…
