1 Edvard Munch Is from Norway!

2 He had a really tough childhood. At 5, he lost his mother (to tuberculosis); at 14, he lost his favourite sister Sophie; at 25, he lost his father. Soon thereafter Laura, his sister, lost her mind and was committed to an asylum. Its no wonder his work has focused on death, loss, fear and love Self Portrait with Skeleton Arm Edvard Munch

3 Munch never got married. His paintings and writings were not very popular. In fact no one appreciated him while he was alive! Munch called his paintings his children and would not sell his paintings to anyone. When Germany invaded Norway during WWII he was afraid they would steal his paintings. Munch is part of the expressionist movement – his most famous painting is called “The Scream” Edvard Munch
