2 ETHICAL USE OF INTERNET MATERIAL INCLUDING VIDEOS, MUSIC, AND PRINTED MATERIALS Videos Teachers must legally attained original videos for instructional use Copies may be made to replace lost, damaged or stolen copies and for use in the classroom Music Can be used for 30 seconds max musical composition and for educational purpose after that permission is required Printed Materials Books must have copyright information on it Teachers may make multiple copies for classroom use Workbooks cannot be copied

3 SOCIAL NETWORKING DO’S & DON'TS DO’s Use good behavior Pay attention to what you are posting online Keep your virus program updated Turn off your location on your phone before taking pictures to post Keep administrator, teachers, and parents informed about network changes Don’ts Post someone else's picture without getting permission Don’t say or do anything online that you would not do in the classroom Teachers must not initiate or accept friendship request with their students

4 COMPUTER SAFETY Online Protecting children from predators Parents should be monitoring their children’s usage Do not send personal pictures Cyberbullying – protecting children from each other Do not send or post harmful information TMI (Too much Information) – protecting children from themselves Do not post personal information to be viewed by millions Offline Be careful what is sent through email and text messages Can’t get back what you send Build student trust Teach strategies to help them know appropriate vs inappropriate sites and behaviors

5 COPYRIGHT GUIDELINES If you take the picture you own the copyright If you use someone else’s pictures you must provide the reference. One may also register their pictures with the copyright company.

6 METHODS FOR CHECKING FOR PLAGIARISM Teachers can use various programs such as Turnitin to check assignments References can also be checked Planning your paper is one of the best ways to avoid plagiarism Effective note taking will also eliminate the need to plagiarized

7 PROPER CITATION METHOD Give credit where credit is due – cite someone else's work using the appropriate format such as APA, MLA, etc. Cite whenever quotes are used Cite when specific reference to the work of another is made Citing sources also strengthens your work
