2 Background Before 2000, structured education for adults with type 1 diabetes was almost non-existent in the UK DAFNE trial of German course in 3 centres (1 week programme) Bournemouth adapted similar programme delivered 1 day each week for 4 weeks

3 Basic Principles Insulin treatment should fit around lifestyle and not vice versa Patients can eat what they like, when they like They need to know how to vary insulin dose according to carbohydrate intake, exercise and other factors
