By Ethan Patchett Driving Distractions

Big Question Will a driver be distracted by either talking on a phone or talking to a person in a car? Will distractions affect normal driving?

Hypothesis I think talking on the phone will distract the driver and the distracted driver will score lower on the driving video game.

The Experiment a.Material 1.The Wii game Indy 500 racing game 2.People to play the game 3.Questions b. Steps 1.Each person plays the driving game three times. Then we will find the average time. 2.Each person plays the driving game. My mom will ask questions to the person playing the game. 3.The difference between the distracted and the non – distracted time will be found 4.What will the time difference show?

Race Data – No Distractions Time Place Avg Ethan 10:25.88 1 st place Ethan 10:32.40 1 st place Ethan 10:39.10 1 st place 10:32 Scott 10:46.24 15 th place Scott 10:53.26 20 th place Scott 10:31.77 1 st place 10:43 Zack 10:42.55 11 th place Zack 10:42.27 5 th place Zack 10:39.10 1 st place 10:41 mm:ss.ss

Analysis of data a.The experiment did test my hypothesis. b.The distractions did affect the player’s driving and score.

Conclusion a.My hypothesis was correct. b.In my experiment I could have added greater distractions to make it harder for the driver. c.The new questions I have are should I have tested better driver than my brother and myself? Would a Professional driver have scored higher than a regular person? I liked doing this experiment, and I hope people will be more careful driving their cars.
