2  Captain Cook found Nobby’s on the 10th of May.  Captain Cook described it as a small clump.  Early names for Nobby’s were- Whybay, Gamber, Hackyings Island, Coal Island, booby Island and Nobby’s Island.

3  The Customs House was just a lumber yard from 1805-1808.  The Customs House was built in 1805 and finished in 1808.  The design architect was James Barnet.

4  The General Post Office was built in 1903.  The General Post Office is on Bulten Street, along side the Police Station.  The cost of it was 80,000 dollars.  It was built with sandstone it is a sandy colour.  In 1970 there was a clean up preparation for the Royal visit.  It is an appealing building and is still functioning.  The General Post Office has only been used as a post office.

5  The Court House is a late Victoria times building.  The Court House was built in 1890 and finished in 1892.  The Court House is the most attractive building in Newcastle.  It is a two story building.

6  Elizabeth 2 nd opened The Art Gallery in 1977.  The cost of The Art Gallery was 1.34 million dollars.  The Art Gallery is constantly changing expeditions.  The pictures in The Art Gallery include traditional and contemporary art and early Newcastle.

7  Henrey.E.White designed the City Hall.  The City Hall was opened in 1929.  In 1977 there was a 3 million dollar refurnishing kit on the City Hall.  The City Hall is on King Street over looking the Civic Park.  One of the main purpose for the building is ‘ House The Lord Major ‘ Concert Hall.
