1 2.4 Operations with Scientific Notation
Goal – SWBAT to add, subtract, divide and multiply with scientific notation Bell ringer – 9/29 and 9/30 Take out Homework and pen only Put textbook on the corner of your desk (Or under seat) In your table of contents of your INB, label pg Operations with Scientific Notation Entry 12 Essential Question – How do you add, subtract, divide, and multiply using scientific notation? Agenda 1. Bell ringer 2. Quiz Grades 3. Lesson 2.4 4. CW 5. HW ** test next class on Chapter 2 *** HERO

2 Adding and Subtracting Numbers with Scientific Notation
Goal – SWBAT to add, subtract, divide and multiply with scientific notation Check Exponents - To add/subtract exponents MUST be the same If they are different, move the decimal to the left and increase the exponent as much as needed for all of them to be the same Line up your factors Keep Product of 10 ( X 10²) Find solution Example 1 in textbook Agenda 1. Bell ringer 2. Quiz Grades 3. Lesson 2.4 4. CW 5. HW ** test next class on Chapter 2 ***

3 Adding and Subtracting Numbers with Scientific Notation – Method 2
Goal – SWBAT to add, subtract, divide and multiply with scientific notation Write all numbers in scientific notation form into standard notation Perform given operation ** See Example on page 51 in textbook Agenda 1. Bell ringer 2. Quiz Grades 3. Lesson 2.4 4. CW 5. HW ** test next class on Chapter 2 ***

4 Multiplying Numbers with Scientific Notation
Goal – SWBAT to add, subtract, divide and multiply with scientific notation Line up factors, & product of 10 Multiply straight down (For Powers of 10) Apply integer rule of multiplying with the same base (add your exponents) Find solution ** Do example in INB with Spanjer Agenda 1. Bell ringer 2. Quiz Grades 3. Lesson 2.4 4. CW 5. HW ** test next class on Chapter 2 ***

5 Dividing Numbers with Scientific Notation
Goal – SWBAT to add, subtract, divide and multiply with scientific notation Line up factors, & product of 10 Divide factors straight down (For Products of 10) Apply integer rule of dividing with the same base (subtract your exponents) Find solution ** Do examples in INB with Spanjer Agenda 1. Bell ringer 2. Quiz Grades 3. Lesson 2.4 4. CW 5. HW ** test next class on Chapter 2 ***

6 ** test next class on Chapter 2 ***
Calculator Notation Goal – SWBAT to add, subtract, divide and multiply with scientific notation On scientific calculator, to enter scientific notation, you enter “EE” or “ee” E takes place of the X 10, then you enter the exponent of 10 Complete 2 Examples with Ms. Spanjer in INB. Agenda 1. Bell ringer 2. Quiz Grades 3. Lesson 2.4 4. CW 5. HW ** test next class on Chapter 2 ***

7 ** test next class on Chapter 2 ***
Classwork Homework Goal – SWBAT to add, subtract, divide and multiply with scientific notation Complete pg. 52 # 1 Complete pg. 53 # 2-9 Begin HW Tear Out Page 43 # 16-23 Page 49 # 16-23 Page 54 All Numbers Agenda 1. Bell ringer 2. Quiz Grades 3. Lesson 2.4 4. CW 5. HW ** test next class on Chapter 2 ***
