Standley Seahawks

Citizenship should not be a mystery  You should know where you stand on your citizenship at all times.  It should not be a surprise when you see your report card or progress report.  You should know what you need to work on to improve it.

Use the SOAR rubric  It lets you know what is expected for behaviors at Standley.  You can figure out what you are doing well and where you need to improve.  Use it as a starting point to talk to your teachers about citizenship.

How to use the rubric  Start by looking at the first column.  Read all the number ones in that column.  Circle the number 1 that best describes you.  Repeat for the two’s and three’s.  (see the next slide for an example)

What is your mark for “Successful”?  Look at the numbers you have circled.  Now, circle the entire box with the most circled numbers.  If there is only one number in each box, circle the box that best represents the average.

Continue for the other columns (Note: The “A” column only has 2 numbers)

Determine your overall citizenship The row with the most circled boxes determines your citizenship. This example would be a “G”.

If there is a tie… Count the circled numbers in each row. The row with the most circles is your citizenship. If it is still tied, choose the higher citizenship mark. In this case it would be a “G” also.

How to deal with “N” & “U” If you circled more than one item in the “N”, or any item in the “U” row, you will get that citizenship mark. In this case you would get a “U”.

Write your information at the top of the form.  Include your  Name  Period  Citizenship mark  You will turn these in for teacher review.

What teachers look for in a self-assessment.  Were you honest in your scoring?  Does your self-grade match what the teacher thought you should get?  Did you follow directions?  A teacher may change the mark you determined if it was not accurate based on their records.

Next steps…  Students should see the teacher corrected rubric.  Students should ask questions about how to improve in low areas.  This document gives students accountability for their own behaviors and removes the “but I didn’t know” excuses.  Maintain the positive behaviors and improve the negative behaviors for next time.

Please continue to S.O.A.R.  Be  Successful  Optimistic  Accountable  Respectful
