The Kingswood Experience Increasing confidence in themselves and their own abilities Developing new friendships and strengthening existing ones Trying new activities and igniting interest in new hobbies Experiencing the camaraderie of an overnight stay and an experience shared Development of a healthy sense of self awareness and empathy for others and their environment Increasing concentration, listening skills and attention span Greater respect for those – both teachers and peers alike – who have shared the same journey Accepting challenges and overcoming fears Young people get so much more out of a visit to Kingswood than just having a lot of fun. The benefits gained are immense, and most will develop new life-skills without even realising they’re learning.

Your centre – Peak Venture Located on the doorstep of the beautiful Peak District and set in 9-acres of wild heather moorlands and gentle limestone dales, Peak Venture – a registered watersports centre – is a perennially popular choice with young people, teachers and group leaders alike.

Your centre – Peak Venture A caring, nurturing environment that is particularly suitable for younger students. A registered watersports centre with the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority. Educational programmes are tailor-made to suit individual needs, requirements and learning outcomes. Over 40 adventure activities, including zip wire and leap of faith to challenge students and encourage considered risk taking. Comfortable single sex dorms sleep with 4 young people. 5 It’s all in a day A typical day at Kingswood runs as follows: Breakfast between 7.30am and 9am First activities kick off around 9.30am 15 minute juice break Lunch between 12pm and 2pm A full afternoon of activities 5 minute juice break Evening Meal between 5.30 and 7pm The Social Sundown evening entertainment at 8pm Return to dorms at 9.30pm Lights out by 10.15pm The school will choose their preferred activities prior to the trip and the centre will then create a programme to meet all of their specific objectives, needs and learning outcomes. 6 sessions per day plus one final evening session. Group sizes of no more than 15 plus a fully qualified Kingswood instructor and a teacher. Students encouraged and praised during activities but are NEVER forced to take part if they are not comfortable doing so. While other schools may also be present on centre during your stay, all programmes and activities are conducted separately. Groups will have the opportunity to mix during The Social Sundown.

So who is going? Boys’ dormitories Brian Owens Paul Humphreys Daniel Graney Paul Wilkins – key first aider Girls’ dormitories Hannah Moss Laura Paget Charlotte Hamer – key first aider

Our timetable

All residential dormitories are warm, comfortable and 100% secure. Girls and boys sleep in completely separate areas and teachers rooms are located close by to allow for plenty of close supervision. All bedding is provided on centre - one of the very first tasks for all students is making up their own beds! Separate showers and toilet facilities are available for girls and boys. Just as at school, Kingswood cannot guarantee 100% safety for personal items brought onto centre and they will not be covered by insurance. A clearly named (disposable) camera is acceptable however children will not need a mobile phone or any other electronics. Home away from home

It’s important for students to maintain high energy levels throughout their stay, so 3 freshly-prepared, healthy cafeteria-style meals are served in our communal dining area every day. A varied choice is always offered, with both hot and cold meals, a salad bar, at least one vegetarian option and yes, sometimes even chips! Plenty of juice and water is available at all times. Most dietary requirements can be catered for as long as we are told in advance - forms have been filled out by the school prior to your visit using the EV4 forms but if you have any others/would like to check the information we hold then please let us know tonight. Also, these forms are also used to establish any medical needs. Food glorious food!

Bedtime routine To finish off each day, hot chocolate is served in the dining room before students return to their dorms at 9:30pm. Plenty of sleep is required to recharge the batteries, so lights are usually turned out by 10:15pm.

So what do I need for all this? Casual trousers Shorts T-shirt Jumper Trainers / shoes plus an extra pair (one for wet and one for mucky) Indoor shoes (centre has an indoor shoe policy) Wellington boots (not necessary) Waterproof jacket Hat & Gloves Plastic bags (for wet or spare clothes) Sun tan lotion if we’re lucky! Pyjamas Toiletries A towel £5 money – shop and tuck Socks and underwear Prescribed medication (if necessary)

What to do about my child’s medication Medication will be kept with a designated adult (Paul Wilkins – boys and Charlotte Hamer - girls.) If medication is needed on hand (e.g. inhaler) it will be kept with the group leader – all staff have a medical and dietary needs list for all children Please could you write a letter which gives your child permission to take their medication. Letter addressed to ‘members of staff’ to give permission
