3. For my number 1 item I chose a hatchet because I could use it to cut down wood for fire. Also, I could use it to help make a fire like Brian did. I could use it for hunting and many other things.

4. I chose an emergency transmitter because I could use it to contact people for help. I could tell them where I was and if I was ok. If they were coming to get me I could tell them if I saw them so they could lower down. Brian could have really used one in the crash and from where he is now.

5. I would want water with me so I would not get dehydrated. Also, I would want water so I was never super thirsty like Brian was. Brian had to work very hard to find water. I would take it with and not have to worry about that.

6. I would bring food with me because I would not want to starve. It took Brian a long time to find food, I would want to have food with me. I would not bring a lot of food because I could still get food from the wild just like Brian did.

7. I chose bug spray to bring with me so I would not get bit by mosquitoes and other bugs. Every morning and night Brian would get bit by mosquitoes and little flies. Then the next day he would be scratching himself. I would bring bug spray so I would not have to worry about it.

8. I would bring matches with me because in Hatchet Brian had a hard time making fire. I would bring matches so it would be easy to make fire. Also, when I make a fire I could use it for a signal and to scare away animals because animals are afraid of fire.

9. I chose a first aid kit because if I got really hurt I could put a bandage on it and clean it off. Or I could put an ice pack on it in case it was swollen. Brian could have really used a first aid kit when he got shot by the porcupine’s quills and when he hit himself with the hatchet.

10. I would bring a tent with me because Brian had a hard time finding a good shelter and, making one after his first one got destroyed by the tornado. If you brought a tent with, you could find a safe place and set it up. It would also be much easier than making your own.
