U.S. Highways 24 and 31 and State Highway 19 cross the county. Miami County is part of the Indiana and Ohio Till Plain land resource area. Elevation is 600-850 feet. The area features oak and hickory trees. The landscape is mainly slightly sloping, except for scattered regions of nearly level terrain and steep slopes in southern Miami County. This County is in the Eastern Time Zone and observes DST. Temperatures range from about 14 ٥ - 34 ٥ in January and from about 60 ٥ - 86 ٥ in July. Average annual precipitation is about 38 inches and snowfall about 25-33 inches. The first freeze of the season typically is around October 10-15, and the last freeze occurs May 1-5. There are approximately 158- 168 growing days. Miami County is a livestock and grain from corn area. Main crops include corn for grain, soybeans, winter wheat and hay. About four-fifths of the land is in farms and about four-fifths of that is in cash crops. Livestock include cattle/calves/milk cows and hogs/pigs. A special crop is popcorn. Main natural resources include crushed stone, construction sand and gravel, petroleum and forestland. Water resources include the Mississinewa Lake Reservoir; the Wabash and Eel Rivers, and several creeks (the Squirrel, Weesau, Prairie, and Little Creeks). Communities include the city of Peru, which is also the County Seat; and the towns of Amboy, Bunker Hill, Converse (which extends into Grant County), Denver, and Macy. 3.
