2. About the Twin Towers Our symbol is the Twin Towers. Minoru Yamaski designed the Twin Towers. They were finished in the 1970’s. Before September 11, 2001, the towers were a symbol of trade and commerce.

3. In Remembrance of the Twin Towers After September 11, 2001, they were symbols of U.S. tradgedy and strength. More than 50,000 people worked at the World Trade Center and about 100,000 people visited there each day. They also had a store, restaurants, snack bars, a hotel, and a police station. The tragic plane crashes brought the U.S. back together to help each other.

4. Interesting Facts There was an enormous mushroom cloud of pulverized dust and debris appearing around the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001. Thick dust clouds went in all directions at about 50 feet per second. Jet fuel and debris temperatures were hot enough to melt steel. Two planes crashed into the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001. The Twin Towers were the tallest buildings in the world for a year.
