2 What is a CDBG?

3 ( CDBG ) is the abbreviation for a Community Development Block Grant

4 Four Types of CDBG’s Standard CDBG application IT&D-Immediate Threat & Danger Grant Program EIP-Employment Incentive Program Redevelopment Fund

5 Program Description “The Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) provides funding to assist a wide range of eligible activities, including housing improvement projects, public facilities such as water and sewer lines, buildings such as local health centers or head start centers, and economic development projects. All projects must substantially benefit low and moderate income persons.”

6 Our CDBG Project Replacement of the water main under S. Chattanooga Street from Patten Street (heading south) to Pledger Pkwy Distance of 1.8 miles Project will include the relocation of water main from under the road bed to run alongside S. Chattanooga Street

8 Citizen Surveys City Firemen will be conducting surveys with residents in project area. 291 homes in project area 3 Key ?’s - Prior water issues -# of people in household -Income range Completed surveys get a chance to win 1 of 4 $50 Wal-mart Gift cards Drawing April 6th

10 Why repair/replace existing water main? Existing 6”water main is of advanced age, and does not meet flow requirements. New 12” water main will bring higher water quality, higher water pressure and possibly increased fire insurance ratings Relocation of water main will make future repairs much easier.

11 What’s the cost of the project? $650,000 estimated for water main from Patten to Pledger Pkwy $500,000 CDBG Grant We are required to have a 5% matching or $25,000. We will have an additional leverage of $125,000 to cover the estimated project costs of $650,000.

12 Project Timeline CDBG Application submitted by April 1, 2015 Winners will be announced August 2015 Project could begin September 2015

13 Grant Competition Just because we apply, it does not mean we will win the grant In 2014, 82 out of 123 applications were awarded for a total of $39.7 million If not awarded project will be completed using SPLOST funds.
