6 Credit Recovery –PLATO /IMPACT Lab This program allows you to earn several credits quickly. Credits are completed on the computer. Sign up with your guidance counselor. –Florida Virtual School Meet with your counselor to determine which class or classes you need to graduate Go to www.flvs.net to register for the classwww.flvs.net Ask your counselor to approve your class. Complete your classes on time!

7 Prospective Student Athletes NCAA If you are looking to participate in intercollegiate athletics at an NCAA Division I or Division II college or university in the future, follow these steps in your 11 th grade year : Register with the eligibility center.eligibility center Make sure you are on course to meet core-course requirements (verify you have the correct number of core courses and that the core courses are on your high school's NCAA approved course list).core-course requirements course list When taking the ACT or SAT, request test scores to be sent to the eligibility center (the code is "9999"). Begin your amateurism questionnaire. NEW RULE FOR NCAA DIVISION 1 (Online Courses)  If you plan to apply to a Division 1 school, NCAA will no longer accept classes taken online though PLATO that were taken after August 1 st 2010.  If you have taken a class through one of these online institutions after August 1 st 2010 please see your counselor to discuss eligibility as soon as possible.

8 Diploma vs. Certificate of Completion Diploma –Awarded to students who have earned 24 credits, a 2.0 GPA, and a passing score on the FCAT –Gives students access to several post secondary options, including college, careers, and the military Certificate of Completion –Given to students who have earned 24 credits and a 2.0 GPA, but have not passed the FCAT, OR have passed the FCAT, but do not have a 2.0 GPA –Limits the post secondary options available (for example, you cannot be accepted to a four year college with a certificate of completion)

9 The ACT and SAT – An Alternative to the FCAT Did you know that you can waive the FCAT for graduation purposes by using your ACT or SAT score? Concordant Scores: –Reading: FCAT – 300 ACT – 18 SAT - 420 –Math: FCAT – 300 ACT – 15 SAT – 340

10 College Admissions As a Junior, what do I need to do to start preparing for college?

12 ACT and SAT Fee Waivers Students who are on free or reduced lunch qualify for fee waivers. Students are eligible for 4 waivers (2 ACT and 2 SAT). Fee waivers are available during all 3 lunch periods.

13 Searching for Colleges How do I search for colleges? –Internet www.collegeboard.com www.petersons.com –College Guides (available in the Career Center)

14 College Visits Visiting a college is the best way to find out if a college is going to be right for you. What should I do on my visit? –Take a walking tour, explore on your own, visit the dorms, check out the surrounding area, talk to other students, talk to an admissions counselor.

15 Preparing for College What are admissions officers looking for? –Rigorous coursework (AP, Honors, and Dual Enrollment) –Grades showing academic growth –Solid standardized test scores (ACT/SAT) –Involvement in extracurricular activities

16 Bright Futures Scholarships Three Different Scholarships: –Florida Academic Scholars Award –Florida Medallion Scholars Award –Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars Award

17 Florida Academic Scholars Award Pays approximately 100% of Tuition and Fees at a Public Institution Eligibility Requirements: –3.5 Weighted GPA –100 Community Service hours –SAT Score of 1280 or ACT Score of 28

18 Florida Medallion Scholars Award Pays approximately 75% of Tuition and Fees at a Public Institution Eligibility Requirements: –3.0 Weighted GPA –75 Community Service hours –SAT Score of 1020 or ACT Score of 22

19 Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars Award Pays approximately 75% of Tuition and Fees at a Public Institution Eligibility Requirements: –3.0 Weighted GPA –3.5 Un-weighted GPA in a minimum of 3 Vocational Credits in one Vocational Program –Earn the minimum score on the CPT, SAT or ACT –30 Community Service hours
