“And He said to them, ‘Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.” Luke 12:15

“And He told them a parable, saying, ‘The land of a certain rich man was very productive. And he began reasoning to himself saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?’’” Luke 12:16-17

“And he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, ‘Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry.’’” Luke 12:18-19

If the parable ended here we might look to this man as a great example of stewardship. Not squandering money Investing Planning for the future Preparing for retirement

“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?’ So is the man who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.” Luke 12:20-21

“Mary therefore took a pound of very costly perfume of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair.” John 12:3

“Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor people?” John 12:5 Great Statement of Stewardship!

“Now he said this, not because he was concerned about the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he had the money box, he used to pilfer what was put into it.” John 12:6

Greed Is Disguised as Stewardship Ananias and Saphira (Acts 5) Master of the demon possessed girl (Acts 16) Felix (Acts 24)

Greed Is Disguised as Stewardship Greedy people are savers. Greedy people are often planners. Greedy people want to make sure their financial future is secure.

Greed Is Disguised as Stewardship Do we make statements to make us look like good stewards when in reality we are looking for a reason to not give more?

Greed Is Disguised as Stewardship Do we look for opportunities to give more as God blesses us more?

“And He said to them, ‘Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.” Luke 12:15

Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed.” 1 Timothy 6:17-18
