EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 Enabling Grids for E-sciencE www.eu-egee.org EGEE and gLite are registered trademarks C. Loomis (CNRS/LAL) EGEE’09 (Barcelona) 25 September 2009 ROSCOE

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 Robust Scientific Communities for EGI (ROSCOE): –Foster robust scientific communities (SSCs) for EGI –Robust = independent, representative, inclusive, perennial –SSCs must play primary, direct role in EGI SSC provides: –Coordination within their communities for grid utilization –Liaison between its community and EGI/other projects (operations, middleware, support, …) –Services to broaden and deepen use of grid technology –Scientific gateway to provide information and specialized services to community ROSCOE ROSCOE — C. Loomis — 25 Sept. 2009 2

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 Scientific Communities High Energy Physics (HEP) –Jamie Shiers, Patricia Mendez Life Sciences (LS) –Vincent Breton, Yannick Legré Comp. 5 Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 Organization Management –SSC leaders play a direct role in management Work packages –Currently also organized according to SSCs. Interactions with other projects –Take place largely on SSC level. –I.e SSC coordinators or representatives interact with other projects, there will not typically be a “ROSCOE” representative ROSCOE — C. Loomis — 25 Sept. 2009 5

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 Common Services Documentation Dissemination Training User Support Application Porting Support Requirements Collection Scientific Gateway Resource Allocation VO Support Service Deployment ROSCOE — C. Loomis — 25 Sept. 2009 6

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 Common Services Documentation Dissemination Training User Support Application Porting Support Requirements Collection Scientific Gateway Resource Allocation VO Support Service Deployment ROSCOE — C. Loomis — 25 Sept. 2009 7 Expect coordination of these activities to happen in EGI. Expect that primary interaction will also be through EGI. Perhaps some co-funding of effort with EGI.eu.

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 Common Services Documentation Dissemination Training User Support Application Porting Support Requirements Collection Scientific Gateway Resource Allocation VO Support Service Deployment ROSCOE — C. Loomis — 25 Sept. 2009 8 Expect direct interaction between SSCs and APS project. Collaboration on specific applications and general scientific libraries.

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 Common Services Documentation Dissemination Training User Support Application Porting Support Requirements Collection Scientific Gateway Resource Allocation VO Support Service Deployment ROSCOE — C. Loomis — 25 Sept. 2009 9 Expect that that EGI through the MCB will act as the liaison between SSCs and software providers.

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 Common Services Documentation Dissemination Training User Support Application Porting Support Requirements Collection Scientific Gateway Resource Allocation VO Support Service Deployment ROSCOE — C. Loomis — 25 Sept. 2009 10 Expect that that the SSCs will play a large role in providing these services and coordinating resources. Expect that EGI will have coordinating bodies to allow efficient interaction with resource providers.

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 Policies/Procedures ROSCOE will cover 7 scientific areas with very different levels of maturity and needs. Expect that the project as a whole will interact with EGI to help develop policies and procedures as well as to test their effectiveness. ROSCOE — C. Loomis — 25 Sept. 2009 11
