6. “Four Color Fractions” Directions  Each of you will receive a card with a fraction, a decimal, or a percent on it.  Your job will be to find the other students in the class that have equivalent valued cards. These equivalent values will always be a different colored card.  Your group will also need to find the table that has a picture representation of this same value. This will be your new seat! Feeling stumped by your card? Here are some suggestions:  Think about what you know about the value: Is it greater than or less than 1? Is it greater than or less than ½? Can you reduce the fraction?  Remember that a percent actually means “out of 100”…similar to a hundredth.  Have a friend help you out  See the teacher for help.

7. Once you’re in your group:  Spend a minute or two working together with the flashcards at your table. This will give other groups an opportunity to come together.

8. Ahhh…finally a little quiet time in the day  In the middle of your table, you will see a stack of cardstock and have been given some art supplies. It’s time to make a Name Tent!

9. “Name Tent” Directions 1) Fold your Comment Card (plain side facing up). 2) You will be working with the plain side of the card. 3) Directions will be given. Do the same to BOTH sides of the card. 4) 5 minutes to complete TEACHER NOTE: Switch to Elmo

10. Table Introduction  Use your Table Tent to introduce yourself to the other students at your table.  When it’s your turn to speak: Speak loudly and clearly Make eye contact  When it’s your turn to listen: Make sure you’re focused and attentive No side conversations

Quick Write…a chance to share your thoughts with me  Grab one of the lined pieces of scratch paper from your table group.  Make sure you have a sharpened pencil or pen.  Put your name (first and last) and your period number in the top right hand corner of your piece of paper.  Respond to the following prompt…

Homework Expectations  Most work will be done out of the workbook (will be handed out next week)  1-2 lessons per day (since we only meet three times a week usually)  Expect to spend 40-60 minutes on each lesson  Work will need to be done neatly in pencil on lined paper and then stapled to the workbook pages.

19. Homework Expectations Part 2  You will have homework over the weekend.  I accept work as long as it is done neatly, in pencil, has thorough work shown, and has received at least 60% accuracy.  We will correct together. If you miss problems, you can ask me to show them during this time and even make corrections!  Homework assignments are listed on the whiteboard, on a unit homework list, and on the class website.

20. I accept LATE work!  If you are absent for a lesson, you have one week to come see me for help and turn in your work for FULL CREDIT.  If you are absent the day work is turned in, turn it in the day you return to class for FULL CREDIT.  If you do not have your work done when it is due, get some help, get it done, and turn it in for LATE CREDIT (80% credit usually).

My Grading Policy  In-class work from workbook = 5 points  Nightly homework = 10 points  Additional in-class work = 5-10 points per day  Random notes page check = 10 points  Unit reviews = 20 points  Unit tests = 100 points  Binder check (quarterly) = 50 points  Benchmark test (quarterly) = 50 points  Projects = 20-100 points

24. Check your grades regularly  I am usually no more than 3 days behind on grading.  Grades can be found at PowerSchool. Passwords will be sent to households in a couple weeks. You can also come see me during my help times to see your grades in all of your classes.

29. Behavior Expectations  No technology powered on during school hours.  Dress code needs to be followed.  No eating or drinking anything in class other than water. This includes GUM.  Four students may go to the bathroom per block day.
