2. Objectives Students will be able to: –State the problem and hypothesis of a scientific investigation. –Identify the variables and control of a scientific investigation.

3. Purpose Students will be able to: –Apply the knowledge gained to complete a science fair project.

6. Make Observations (Research) Search for information about the topic of interest.

7. State Problem (Question) What can be solved through investigation or experimentation.

8. Formulate a Hypothesis Formulate a Hypothesis : Predict a possible answer to the problem or question. Example: If soil temperature increases, then the plant will grow taller.

9. Variables Independent –Condition that you will change during the experiment. Dependent –Condition that will change as a result of changes of the independent variable (observations).

10. Controlled Variables Conditions that will stay the same during the experiment. You control to reduce error.
