2. GEOGRAPHY Geography Geography is the study of Earth, how it shapes peoples lives and is shaped in turn by peoples activities Geography comes from the Greek word meaning “ Earth writing” Where can you learn about geography?

3. REGION Region- is an area with common features that set it apart from other areas By learning about regions we can learn more about people and other parts of the world Regions can be huge Example: hemispheres

4. PHYSICAL REGION Physical Regions- regions that are defined by Earths natural environment Often have common landforms

5. CLIMATE REGIONS Physical regions can also be organized by climate Climate- weather patterns that an area has over a long period of time Example: the climate of places around the equator is hot and humid

6. CULTURAL REGION Cultural region is invisible from an airplane Culture- is a way of life of a group of people, including their daily habits, beliefs and arts Language, religion and ethnic heritage are some of the things that make up cultural regions

7. CUSTOMS Customs are shared by people around the world Customs- are ways of living that people practice regularly over time Customs determine: Dress, eat, play, learn, live with other people and understand the world

8. VALUES One of the most important parts of any culture is its values Values- the things people believe are most important in life Many people’s values are shaped by their religion

9. INTERACTION Cultures do not stay the same forever. They constantly change through their interactions with other cultures Interactions- is the exchange of ideas and customs Example: I am Italian but in my house we sometimes eat, Chinese or Mexican food
