7 Page 7 Reasons for campaigning Network of women police will have to engage in active campaigning to achieve the following: 1.Get recognition for women police across all ranks bringing women police in the forefront and leadership roles 2.Achieve a Gender Balance in police by Increasing induction of women in police 3.Participation of women in Mainstream policing to promote gender sensitive policing services 4.To reduce gender based violence by improving access of women victims to police stations

WPN needs strategic measures to reach a common objective by adopting a collective approach.

9 Page 9 Making a difference It has been proved by research conducted in different parts of the world that women police bring different qualities to police work as compared to male police. Women police have better communication skills that help them to de-escalate violence without using force. Women Police is compassionate and shows empathy that makes it easy for complainants to share their issues and even criminals to confess.

17 Page 17 Campaign in selected educational institutes Select 2 -3 public educational institutes in your area Plan Campaign according to the agenda, finalize dates for campaign and inform your WPC chair Always link role of women police with reduction of violence against women Establish linkage with the educational institutes for information on women recruitment in police Get information of career festivals in universities and share information about police recruitment to the institutes

18 Page 18 Campaigning with NGOs Do a mapping of local NGOs in your area that work on women issues to reach out to the communities Liaison with Social Welfare Department if possible to contact NGOs registered with SWD Organize a talk with the local NGOs and encourage them to inform the communities to report crimes against women to the police and spread information on recruitment

19 Page 19 Collaboration with Media Collaborate with media taking them on board for support of increased recruitment of women in police Involve media in campaigns in educational institutes (through NGOs or educational institutes) Contact indirectly Do not be proactive in developing media relations NGOs can organize a media forum where you can be invited as a guest speaker to speak on Role of Women in Policing

20 Page 20 Lady Health Workers Contact the Health Department in your province, or EDO Health in the district to contact LHVs. Contact the training institute of LHVs and arrange for a talk during their training sessions Inform the LHVs to spread the information on VAW and reach out to women in the society mainly in rural areas to report crimes against them to the police Contact NGOs working on health like FPAP and reach out to LHVs through them

21 Page 21 Dissemination of SOPs Contact the Chair of Gender Strategy Action Plan Committee for dissemination of SOPs for dealing with women victims of violence throughout the province Ensure and pursue that SOPs are included in all mandatory courses of police Organize special orientation sessions on SOPs for men and women officers by contacting police training institute in your area or even police lines Liaison with local relevant NGOs for sessions on GBV for women and men officers

22 Page 22 Getting support from senior officers Develop mechanisms for information sharing with senior police management for support: - share main police related issues raised by the women and girls during campaigns in writing or during a quarterly meeting of WPC -In case you have some suggestions for better participation of women in policing share them with the seniors for implementation for example: women police to be deputed outside girls colleges, setting up LCUs inside regular police stations

23 Page 23 Support from within Stick together Share common objectives Follow the agreed leadership Support each other Keep close contact with WPS in your area and highlight their performance Ensure that achievements of women police are recognized and highlighted Inform GRP/GIZ about new developments and give your inputs for the News letter
