How do I do my presentation? 1. Your first slide will list the title of your section and your name 2. Choose a nice background that is appropriate for your presentation

Now log in to the program  Follow directions from your handout to open http://www.domesatreview.com/free- sat-critical-reading-study-guides http://www.domesatreview.com/free- sat-critical-reading-study-guides  NOTE: If you get an error message, click on “OK to go to this page” or something like that.

Find your section  Read it  You will build slides from the information in your section  Use enough slides to present CLEAR information with examples  ** To add more information to your slides, Google the topic to get info from other sources. Build your Works Cited page as you go!

Problems to avoid  Use your own words! It is obvious if you copy/paste everything because you lose your voice, and we probably won’t understand what you are trying to say.  Use a new slide rather than cramming everything in on one slide.  Keep the text readable.  Use examples!

Feel free to add more information  Google your topic or specifics from your selection in order to find and present more information.  Remember that every item you use from a source must be noted on the Works Cited page.

For those who have a topic in the writing section, add examples/practice exercises  You have a grammar section, so we need to review the rules through some practice exercises.  Google to find these exercises, and plan to lead us through some practice

Works Cited  Present Works Cited as a separate page (12 point Times, doublespaced, following directions and format from the handout)  The sample WC page shows web sources as a guide for your formatting  Do not put this information into your Powerpoint presentation. It is a separate print out!

How to cite Google images -- It’s so easy!  “Flowers.” The Flower Expert. Web. 21 Mar. 2013.  “word you searched.” Web site name. Web. Date of access.  Everything goes in ABC order  Numbers go first

SAMPLE WC Page (12 pt Times in Word to print out! You can use this as a template if you put it into Word.) Works Cited “1.4 How to Build Vocabulary.” DomeSAT. Web. 21 Mar. 2013. Handel. “Water Music.” Grooveshark. Web. 21 Mar. 2013. "Vocabulary." EducaMadrid. Web. 21 Mar. 2013. "Vocabulary." Jerusalem English Teachers Site. Web. 21 Mar. 2013. “Words.” Diabetes Mine. Web. 21 Mar. 2013.

What music will you use?  You may use your Ipod during your presentation  Avoid music that interferes with your presentation -- and that will annoy the teacher ; )  Your music does not have to have words  Research shows that particular types of music are better for stimulating thinking. See the direction sheet for more info!

Fancy it up!  Feel free to add transitions  Use art to help present your material.  Keep in mind that “Google” is a website which you will need to cite as you gather pictures Here is a sample entry for an image from Google images: “Flowers.” The Flower Expert. Web. 21 Mar. 2013. (This image is linked from Google images, listing the word you used to search and the homepage of the image.)

Images  If you can’t access Google images, try Yahoo images  Also, you can use images from Cobb Virtual:  On the HHS homepage, under Academics  Media Center  Cobb Virtual on the right. Once you open Cobb Virtual, on the left side  Multimedia.  Here you may find resources for images. All work well, and you need to cite each image that you choose. (The Microsoft Office Clip Art also has photos, not just clip art.)  www.memory.loc.gov provides images from the Library of Congress www.memory.loc.gov  www.morguefile.com provides good photographic images www.morguefile.com

Save Save Save  Save regularly!  This is not homework since you will have plenty of time to complete it in class. We are in the lab today and tomorrow.  However, if you choose to work on it at home, make sure that you have saved it here in the lab as the appropriate file type. (Our lab has a newer version of Powerpoint.)

Have fun!  With these presentations, you will hear the strategies to which your former classmates referred.  This is VERY IMPORTANT information that you will share with the class!  When you are done, print out your Works Cited page.
