3 Importance of services for West Africa In most West African countries, services contribute between 25 and 60% of GDP and occupy on average 30% of the working population – –Contribution of the services sector in the Nigerian economy: 25-30% (1985-1999) – –In Senegal services account for 60% of GDP. Telecoms represent only 6% of GDP in 2004.
