3 DEFINITIONS: 1)Direct variation – The statement "y varies directly as x," means that when x increases, y increases by the same factor. In other words, y and x always have the same ratio where k is the constant of variation. y = kx or

4 DEFINITIONS: 2)Inverse variation: The statement "y varies inversely as x means that when x increases, y decreases by the same factor where k is the constant of variation. xy = k or y 1 x 1 = y 2 x 2
