3 History of NASPA 1918 First meeting of the founding members occurred in Fall 1918 to discuss establishing a group to support student personnel at colleges and universities. 1919 NASPA, then known as the Conference of Deans and Advisers of Men, is founded. 1929 CDAM is renamed the National Association of Deans and Advisers of Men (NADAM.) 1951 NADAM is renamed the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA.) 1967 First permanent NASPA office is created in Detroit, MI. 1974 NASPA Foundation is established. 1975 Channing Briggs named first Executive Director of NASPA. 1976 Alice Manicur is the first female elected NASPA President. 1985 Bob E. Leach is the first minority elected NASPA President. In 2010, the conversation of merging NASPA and ACPA occurred. Due to the passion of former leadership and their mission to maintain the integrity of the organization, this merger will never happen. (Ruffins, 2011) ("The history of," 2013) 1989 NASPA Networks formed, would later become the current Knowledge Communities. 1989 NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program founded. 1996 Institutes and Symposiums provided new professional development opportunities for members. 1999 Doris Ching is the first female minority elected NASPA President. 2005 International representation reaches 30 members. 2012 NASPA Board Chair established and the first NASPA President was hired.

6 Scanning and Scenarios by NASPA SCANNING  Virtual education seminars on alcohol awareness  Collaboration with Division III  Assessment efforts will determine if more projects and sessions are of assistance  Full program launch in fall of 2014 (Krtnick, 2012) SCENARIOS  NASPA Foundation Strategic Plan  4 Goals  Increase substantially the foundation’s capacity to be a dynamic and sustainable organization,  Heighten the visibility and strengthen the brand of the foundation  Increase substantially the foundation’s fund-raising and donor base  Fund meaningful scholarship and emergent practices  Broad to allow versatility with current social trends (Keeling & Associates, 2012).
