2 2 Overview of NASA 3D-AQS Project  Integrate NASA satellite sensor and lidar data into EPA’s air quality data systems: AQS/AirQuest, IDEA  Provide greater accessibility and usability of satellite and lidar data to users of these systems  Enable monitoring in horizontal and vertical dimensions for forecasting and retrospective analysis Funded by NASA Applied Sciences

16 16 3D-AQS Remote Sensing Data: Conclusions and ‘Big Issues’ Satellite aerosol optical depth data matched to monitors and on CMAQ grid now available in AirQuest New datasets available over next 18 months Issues for the future: –Given limited resources for new ground data, what needs to be done so we can use satellite data for quantitative regulatory decisionmaking/forecasting and to fill spatial data gaps? –How do we address concerns over data quality and appropriate application of ground-based and satellite datasets? –How can we ensure long-term availability of satellite and ground- based datasets? For example, where will vertical data come from in the future?
