2 La Comida Ecuador: - main dish always has rice and usually a meat stew. - lemon-marinated shrimp, toasted corn, and pastries stuffed with meat or cheese - other dishes include roasted guinea pig and bull penis soup. Perú: - considered one of the most diverse cuisines in the world - ceviche, a citrus-based raw seafood salad - anticuchos, beef liver roasted with potatoes and corn - cau cau is cow intestine stew with rice. Bolivia: - potato is served at most meals, sometimes with rice and noodles. - charque de llama, dried llama meat, fried, served with stewed corn, hard cooked eggs and cheese. - lechon, roast suckling pig. - humitas, fresh corn with cheese wrapped in corn leaves and steamed.

7 Festivales de Bolivia La Fiesta de San Juan: - June 23-24, the longest and coldest night of the year - celebration started at midnight with bonfires to bless people with health, prosperity, and fertility - kids bath in Amazon river to purify themselves in the morning. - some regions of Bolivia run through the fires or walk on the hot embers La Fiesta de Inti Raymi: - “festival of the sun” on June 21-22 - on the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year - based on a ritual from thousands of years ago by the Incans - celebrate to welcome the sun and rebirth of nature - fireworks, performances by folkloric groups, food, dance etc.

9 Festivales de Perú Fiestas Patrias: - consists of 2 days, July 28-29 - July 28 – celebrates the independence from Spain - 21 cannon salute at dawn, flags raised at every home, business etc. during entire month of July - July 29 – honors the Armed Forces and National Police - almost everyone attends a Mass at 9am including the president - a great military parade follows which with almost all of Peru’s weaponry on display

10 Festivales de Ecuador La Fiesta de la Mamá Negra: - happens in November, but day varies every year. - a parade of characters from throughout history and various heritages. - includes dances, musicians, and marching bands - ends with Mamá Negra on horseback. - bears dolls representing her “children” and is in an elaborate costume. - sprays milk and water on parade goers and throws candy and containers of wine to the crowd

12 Lugares de Interés Galapagos Islands - Ecuador Volcanic islands along the equator – 13 main and many smaller secondary islands “Galapago” means saddle and many believe that the tortoises have shells that look like old Spanish saddles. The tortoise is a unique animal found only in the islands.

16 Información Adicional - 18 different languages spoken in Ecuador. - Life expectancy is 69 years in Peru because of poverty. - natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, flooding, volcanic activity, and mudslides in Peru. -“Yungas Road”, world’s most dangerous road, is in Bolivia. 25 cars plunge off the steep road and more than 100 people die each year. This road connects northern Bolivia to the capital, La Paz.
