11. Big Idea: Love for the world will blind us to the beauty of Jesus, but love for Jesus will cause the things of this world to fade away.

12. THE LOVE OF THIS WORLD WILL CAUSE US TO REJECT JESUS (vs. 1-2; chief priests and scribes)

13. 1 John 2:15-17 15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

14. THE LOVE OF THIS WORLD WILL CAUSE US TO BETRAY JESUS (vs. 4-5; Judas Iscariot)

15. Matthew 6:24 24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

16. 1 Timothy 6:9-10 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
