Circulatory System Organs The Heart – muscle that pushes blood through the body The human heart has 4 chambers 2 atria – upper chambers 2 ventricles – lower chambers Blood Vessels – blood travels through them arteries – carry blood away from the heart veins – carry blood to the heart capillaries – tiny blood vessels that deliver supplies to individual cells

Functions of Blood Transportation – carries materials throughout the body Protection – Some blood cells help fight infection Temperature Regulation – helps regulate body temperature by expanding or contracting near surface to release heat.

Parts of Blood Red Blood Cells – deliver oxygen to the cells White Blood Cells – protect your body from infection Platelets – stop bleeding Plasma – liquid part of the blood
