2. Childhood and Family He was born in Wilmington, North Carolina on October 28,1936.He grew up in Chatham County, North Carolina. He married his wife, Hazel, in 1963. They have one son, Charlie Daniels Jr.

3. History of playing instruments He played the banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and guitar by the time he graduated high school. He began playing and performing music in the 1950’s.
